Which bread is heavier on the scales of our life, the bread from heaven, or the bread from earth? In the Gospel of John 6:26, Jesus said that people are for the material stuff that He can provide. But they did not care so much, about his teaching. And yet God said that we should seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.
Jesus was glad to provide for them, but that was not the primary reason he came into the world for. He wanted them to go after him, for himself, and not for the stuff he can provide.
I wonder if we grieve the Holy Spirit, when we go to God for his gifts, and not for his person? They still did not get what Jesus was teaching them about the Kingdom of God, but were still looking for bread to eat. They just did not catch anything Jesus was telling them, about the bread from heaven and the Kingdom of God.
In John 6:31-36, they were just thinking and talking about the Manna which God has provided the Israelite in the wilderness, and their primary focus was their stomach, and not their heart or spirit, neither the things of God.
Also in John 6:50-53 Jesus was talking about giving his body for the salvation of people, and that talk from him, as being the bread from heaven, was symbolic, just like his other parables, because Jesus said in another place of the Gospels, that he talks to people who are not his disciples, in parables, so that they can hear and see, but not perceive with their hearts.
And he also said that the secrets of the Kingdom of God, are given to his disciples to know them. So, here, in John 6, he is talking to them in like in parables. He talks heavenly revelations, they think earthly things, and miss the whole point, of what he is saying. They wanted this world bread, not the one from heaven.
They were in the flesh, and not in the Spirit, and when we are in the flesh, all we think about is the bakery, and what it sells.
The only way of those people grasping what Jesus was saying to them, like being the bread of heaven, was for the Holy Spirit to reveal to them, what that means. There is no other way, they could grasp it, and that is why they did not.
Great job begun, I encourage you to stick to it.
